Five years ago, Senator Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash as he moved on track to win re-election to the U.S. Senate as its most vocal liberal.
In the interviews with John Adams for the cover piece he just wrote, we talked about three of my major formative experiences. One for me (and, I would guess, for all members of my generation) was 9/11. The second was Paul Wellstone's death and the subsequent hijacking of his death by the right-wing. The third was the right-wing assault on MontPIRG and the Environmental Studies program during my time in-and-out of the University of Montana.
Anyways, I bring this up because you owe it to yourself to read (or re-read) Harold Meyerson's eulogy for Paul or Ezra Klein's more recent tribute to the man.
