In Memory of Paul Wellstone

by: Matt Singer

Sat Oct 27, 2007 at 15:47:20 PM MDT

Five years ago, Senator Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash as he moved on track to win re-election to the U.S. Senate as its most vocal liberal.

In the interviews with John Adams for the cover piece he just wrote, we talked about three of my major formative experiences. One for me (and, I would guess, for all members of my generation) was 9/11. The second was Paul Wellstone's death and the subsequent hijacking of his death by the right-wing. The third was the right-wing assault on MontPIRG and the Environmental Studies program during my time in-and-out of the University of Montana.

Anyways, I bring this up because you owe it to yourself to read (or re-read) Harold Meyerson's eulogy for Paul or Ezra Klein's more recent tribute to the man.

Or, if nothing else, watch this video from my friend Adam Conner:

Thanks Matt... (0.00 / 0)
You reminded me of this incredible Wellstone quote a couple of years ago.  This sums it up for me...

"Politics is not about power. Politics is not about money. Politics is not about winning for the sake of winning. Politics is about the improvement of people's lives. It's about advancing the cause of peace and justice in our
country and the world. Politics is about doing well for the people."

--Paul Wellstone

incredulous!!!!

And what's incredible... (0.00 / 0)
is that you have the gall to comment after trying to use Wellstone's death for your own reasons, recently, M. Squid.

Enough (0.00 / 0)
Enough reminiscing about Wellstone. What takes "gall" is extracting non-Montana donations and passing them off as "grassroots."

Time's up Mr. Singer.

good lord! (0.00 / 0)
What's wrong with you people? Can't you stop blaming the "system" for all your woes?

Seriously, you folks are nuts. The theories you've been spinning about Singer are quite amusing...

and what's more... (0.00 / 0)
You hijack a thread in memory of Paul Wellstone! How classy!

Damn. You got me. (0.00 / 0)
I've confessed -- check out the latest post.

Do you know what a "match" is? (0.00 / 0)
It's not what you light your cigar with.  Too bad young people hate Republicans right now. Alex P. Keaton was a sitcom character in the 1980s. Remember those days? Jealousy isn't a good Christian value.

Blaming wrong group (0.00 / 0)
For the hijacking of his death.  He would be proud to see the use the Democrats and "progressives" have made of his death.  That's what's truly sad.
